Gildas is my Nom-de-Web, as it were; my real name is Tony Hughes and I live in a small market town called Ormskirk, in Lancashire, in the UK. I'm a 'baby boomer', born in 1950. I've been married since 1972 (to the same person), have three kids and to earn a crust (and little more), I teach IT & Computing at a college in Liverpool (which isn't far away).

My hobbies (which is what this site is all about) centre around Military & Naval History, Modelling and Wargaming. If that turns you off then hit the BACK button now.

I created this site to share stuff rather than to display my talents at web design (which are not that great), so don't expect much in the way of special effects.

You will find a variety of resources on this site as well as some of my own humble efforts. Particularly useful are the scans of Irregular Miniatures 2mm ranges and a selection of Heroics & Ros 6mm Medieval & Renaissance figure packs; as far as I know these are not available elsewhere (except where they have copies of these).

As a wargamer I play DBA regularly and other sets occasionally. I have interests in many periods and scales from Ancient to WW2 and 2mm to 54mm. If I had time, I should get around to completing some of the many projects I have started but I probably wouldn't, I'd just start more.

I have also written a simple set of 'Dark Age' skirmish Rules called LYTEL GUÞAN (Little Wars) which were published by the Society of Ancients in 2000. I have been a member of that august society for some time now and currently do the layout for the house magazine Slingshot. My latest project on the game design front is a simulation of Gladiatoral Combat called AVE NEMESIS (Hail Fate), this has reached a fairly late stage of playtesting and, once I get the time, I hope to publish it.

I frequent the 'Net' and am a member of a number of Yahoo groups (the old e-groups), say hello if you see Gildas there.

After a number of requests from gamers I now offer a painting service for 2mm miniatures. As far as I know, this is the only such service that is exclusively for 2mm, I don't do any other scale.
